Course overview
When someone collapses in sudden cardiac arrest, two things matter most: early CPR and rapid use of a defibrillator. Every minute without them sharply reduces the chance of survival, so the people on the scene make all the difference in those first few minutes before an ambulance arrives. Our CPR & Defibrillator (AED) course in Sunderland gives you the skills and the confidence to step in and help.
This is a focused, practical 1 day course delivered with plenty of hands-on practice on manikins and AED trainers. You'll learn to recognise a cardiac arrest, deliver effective chest compressions and rescue breaths, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely and confidently. We also cover the recovery position and how to deal with a choking casualty. No prior experience is needed — the session is relaxed, beginner-friendly and designed to build genuine confidence.
Public courses run at South Hylton Tansy Centre from £55 per person. If you'd prefer to train a whole team, we deliver on-site group training at your premises from £395 for up to 12 people. On completion you'll receive a Skills Training Group certificate. We recommend refreshing your skills every year.

Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for anyone who wants to be ready to act in a life-threatening emergency. It suits workplace first aiders, organisations that have a defibrillator on site (or are considering installing one), gyms and leisure centres, sports and community clubs, and members of the public who simply want to be prepared.
No experience is needed and there is no written exam, so it's well suited to complete beginners. If your workplace has an AED, training your team to use it confidently is one of the most worthwhile half-days you can invest in.
Assessment & certification
Assessment is practical and takes place on the day — there is no written exam. Your trainer will observe you carrying out CPR and using an AED trainer to confirm you can apply the techniques confidently.
On successful completion you'll receive a CPR & Defibrillator (AED) certificate from Skills Training Group. We recommend refreshing your CPR and defibrillator skills every year. If you need a workplace-specific qualification, we'd recommend following up with our Emergency First Aid at Work course.
